PRIVACY POLICY — NOOR 4.0

This Privacy Policy explains how the Noor mobile application (“the app”) collects, uses, and protects information when you use it to find the direction of Qibla (the Kaaba in Mecca) and to receive prayer times based on your location.

The app is developed and maintained by Kaxe Studio.

1. INFORMATION WE COLLECT AND HOW IT IS USED

1.1 Location Data

We do not send your location to Quran.com or EveryAyah. Location is only used for Qibla direction and prayer time calculation (Aladhan API) as described above.

What is accessed:

  • Approximate location (network-based)
  • Precise location (GPS-based)

How it is used:

  • To calculate the direction of Qibla from your current position
  • To determine accurate prayer times for your geographic location

Third-party processing:

Location coordinates are sent to a third-party prayer times service (Aladhan API) solely to retrieve prayer times.

Storage and retention:

  • We do not store location history on our servers
  • Location data is used only in real time
  • The last known location may be temporarily cached locally on your device for performance purposes

1.2 Device Sensors

The app accesses built-in device sensors to display compass orientation and Qibla direction.

Sensors used:

  • Magnetometer (compass)
  • Accelerometer
  • Rotation vector sensor

Purpose:

  • To determine device orientation
  • To display an accurate Qibla compass

Data handling:

  • Sensor data is processed entirely on your device
  • Sensor data is never stored or transmitted

1.3 Notification Preferences

The app stores your prayer notification preferences locally on your device.

What is stored locally:

  • Enabled prayer notifications (Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, Isha)
  • Advance reminder timing (off, 10, 15, 30, or 45 minutes)
  • Notification sound selection
  • Vibration preference

Storage method:

  • Stored locally using Android’s internal storage mechanisms
  • Never transmitted to external servers

1.4 App Settings and Preferences

To personalize your experience, the app stores the following locally:

  • Language selection (English, Arabic, Indonesian)
  • Theme preference (Light, Dark, System default)
  • Privacy policy acceptance status
  • General app configuration settings

All such data is stored only on your device.

1.5 Media Content Requests (Quran text and audio)

The app retrieves Quranic text and translations from the Quran.com API and streams Quran recitation audio from the EveryAyah.com audio CDN. When audio is playing, the app may use a foreground service so playback can continue in the background with a persistent notification.

Data handling:

  • We do not send personal information or precise location to Quran.com or EveryAyah.
  • As with standard web requests, these services may receive technical information such as your IP address, request time, and User-Agent.
  • All requests are sent over HTTPS.

1.6 Offline Hadith Databases (On-Device Only)

The app includes pre-packaged Hadith collections stored locally as SQLite database files on your device (Bukhari, Muslim, Abu Dawud, Musnad Ahmad – Selected, and 40 Hadith an-Nawawi).

How it is used:

  • Hadith browsing and search happen entirely on your device.
  • The app may create a local simplified Arabic text helper (e.g., removing diacritics) to improve search.
  • No Hadith content and no search queries are transmitted to any server.
  • Your Hadith search queries are not uploaded or stored on our servers.

1.7 Quran Reading Progress (On-Device Only)

The app may store your last read position to let you resume later.

What is stored locally: Reader preferences and last-opened content (such as the last opened Surah/verse)

Storage: Stored locally on your device only and never uploaded. Removed when you clear app data or uninstall.

2. INFORMATION WE DO NOT COLLECT

The app does not collect:

  • Names, email addresses, or phone numbers
  • Account credentials (no login or registration required)
  • Payment or financial information
  • Advertising identifiers
  • Device identifiers for tracking
  • App usage analytics or behavioral data
  • Photos, contacts, files, or media

We do not:

  • Sell, rent, or trade personal data
  • Use advertising SDKs
  • Track users across apps or services
  • Build user profiles
  • Operate analytics or telemetry systems

3. PERMISSIONS EXPLAINED

The app requests the following Android permissions:

Location (ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION, ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION)

Purpose: Required to calculate Qibla direction and prayer times based on your location.

Internet (INTERNET)

The app uses internet access to:

  • Fetch accurate prayer times from the Aladhan API.
  • Fetch Quranic content and translations from the Quran.com API.
  • Stream Quran audio recitations from the EveryAyah.com CDN.
  • Support network requests required for prayer times, Quran text, and audio streaming features.
  • Load the latest Privacy Policy content from the official website.

Notifications (POST_NOTIFICATIONS)

Purpose: Required to send prayer time notifications and advance reminders.

Vibration (VIBRATE)

Purpose: Allows vibration for notifications if enabled by the user.

Exact Alarms (SCHEDULE_EXACT_ALARM)

Purpose: Required to schedule prayer notifications at precise times.

Device Restart (RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED)

Purpose: Allows re-scheduling prayer notifications after device reboot.

Foreground Service (FOREGROUND_SERVICE, FOREGROUND_SERVICE_MEDIA_PLAYBACK)

Purpose: Required to play Quran recitation audio in the background (when you switch apps or the screen is off).

How it works: Android shows a persistent notification with playback controls while audio is playing.

Data handling: Playback runs on your device. The app does not collect personal information for audio playback. When streaming audio, standard network requests are made to EveryAyah, which may receive technical information such as IP address, request time, and User-Agent.

Sensors (No permission required)

Used to determine device orientation for compass display. Sensor data remains on-device.

4. THIRD-PARTY SERVICES

4.1 Aladhan Prayer Times API

The app uses the Aladhan API (api.aladhan.com) to retrieve prayer times.

Shared data:

  • Latitude and longitude
  • Date, timezone, and calculation parameters

Purpose:

  • To provide accurate prayer times based on location

4.2 Device Location Services

The app uses your device’s system location services to obtain location data. These services are provided by your device’s operating system or manufacturer.

We do not control how device or operating system providers process location data.

4.3 Quran.com API

The app uses the Quran.com API (api.quran.com) to provide Quranic text, translations, and chapter information.

Shared Data:

No personal information, account data, or location coordinates are shared with the Quran.com API. The app only sends requests for specific chapter or verse data to display within the reader.

Purpose:

To retrieve and display accurate Quranic content and translations for the user.

Data Handling:

Requests to the Quran.com API are handled over secure HTTPS.

4.4 EveryAyah Audio CDN

The app uses EveryAyah (everyayah.com) to stream Quran recitation audio files in the Quran Reader.

Background playback:

  • The app uses a foreground service to allow background audio playback.
  • A persistent notification is shown while audio is playing.
  • You can control playback (play/pause/stop) from the notification.

Shared data:

  • No personal data is intentionally sent by the app.
  • As with standard web requests, EveryAyah may receive technical information such as IP address, request time, and User-Agent.
  • We do not send your precise location or identifiers.

Security:

  • Audio is delivered over HTTPS.

5. DATA STORAGE, RETENTION, AND SECURITY

Server-side data

  • We do not store personal data on our own servers

Local device data

  • App settings and preferences are stored locally
  • The Hadith SQLite databases are stored in your device’s private app storage.
  • A local simplified Arabic helper column/index may be generated on-device to improve Hadith search.
  • Clearing app data or uninstalling the app deletes all stored data

Security measures

  • All network communication uses HTTPS encryption
  • No sensitive personal data is retained or processed on servers

6. CHILDREN’S PRIVACY

The app does not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13.

The app is intended for a general audience and does not specifically target children.

7. USER RIGHTS AND CONTROLS

You have full control over your data:

  • Revoke location access via device settings
  • Manage or disable notifications in-app or via system settings
  • Delete all data by clearing app data or uninstalling the app
  • Change language and theme preferences within the app

Revoking location access will disable core functionality.

8. GDPR (EU USERS)

If you are located in the European Union, the following applies:

Legal basis for processing:

  • User consent (granted through Android permission prompts)
  • Necessary processing to provide core app functionality requested by the user

Your rights include:

  • Right of access (view data stored locally on your device)
  • Right to rectification (modify settings within the app)
  • Right to erasure (clear app data or uninstall)
  • Right to data portability (local data can be manually exported)
  • Right to withdraw consent (revoke permissions at any time)

Because no personal data is stored on our servers, there is no server-side data to access or delete.

9. GOVERNING LAW AND JURISDICTION

This Privacy Policy is governed by and interpreted in accordance with the laws of Denmark and applicable European Union regulations.

Any disputes arising from this Privacy Policy or the use of the app shall be subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of Denmark.

10. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY AND DISCLAIMER

The app is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis.

While we strive for accuracy:

  • Compass readings may be affected by device sensors and environmental factors
  • Prayer times are calculated using standard methods and should be used as guidance

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Kaxe Studio shall not be liable for damages arising from the use of or reliance on the app.

Users are encouraged to verify prayer times with local authorities when necessary.

11. NO ADS, NO TRACKING, NO ACCOUNTS

  • No advertisements
  • No analytics or tracking services are used
  • No account, login, or registration is required

Your privacy and focus remain our priority.

12. CHANGES TO THIS PRIVACY POLICY

This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time.

When changes occur:

  • The effective date will be updated
  • Significant updates may be communicated through the app or website

Continued use of the app constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
